District of Columbia War Memorial - a photo on Flickriver

            The District of Columbia War Memorial honors the 499 men and women from The District that gave their lives in World War I.

The memorial was dedicated on Armistice Day (later renamed Veterans Day) 1931.

The memorial is the only District of Columbia memorial on the National Mall.

It was intended to serve as a war memorial and a bandstand.  Each concert would be a tribute to those who served and died in the Great War.

The little-visited, understatedly elegant memorial is located in a grove of ash trees east of the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
