Late Bronze Age shield - a photo on Flickriver

            This shield was beaten from a single plate of bronze and has a handle on the back attached with rivets. This type of shield was parade armour only, as it would have been useless in combat.
Parade shields were sometimes deposited in wet places - the one on display was found in a bog. Combat shields may have been made of leather or wood, examples of which have been found in Irish bogs.
