EuroCitro 2014 – 1985 Citroën BX 19 DIGIT

The BX 19 DIGIT is a limited special model (3000 ex.) which appeared in September 1985. Mechanically, it's a BX 19 GT, but it has many interesting features. (BX 19 GT description: bottom)

Its appearance corresponds to the BX 16 TRS, and only its BX 19 GT wheel trims and the BX 19 DIGIT-logo are different. Silver and light blue (Bleu Romantique) were available the two body colours.

The idea was to make a modern dashboard/interior, the first of its kind in a BX. It featured an electronic dashboard/odometer in a black interior with specific cloth and other special parts. It also features the BX 19 GT board computer, but with a second display in the dash and an additional button. This model was also the first BX to warn the driver by a sound if he forgot the headlights on his parked DIGIT. Also the "PLIP" (infrared central locking remote control) and the feature of interior lights switching off 15 seconds after closing the doors appeared the first time in a BX. The DIGIT is the only BX mk.1 equipped with a "PLIP".

The DIGIT also featured a 5 speaker audio quit with 12v and headphone sockets, as well as a specific Pioneer radio. It was also uncommon for a french BX mk.1 to be delivered with 4 electric windows. Factory radio: PIONEER cassette extractible2x20W autoreverse with digital display and equalizer, keeps up to 6 frequencies in memory on each wave length (FM PO GO). Thanks to an internal battery, the memory is permanent.

The lower part of the central dash has chrome decorations, a DIGIT-logo on the ashtray and green ventilation command lights. The window button frames are also chrome instead of black.

1984 Citroën BX 19 GT at EuroCitro 2014, Le Mans

The BX 19 GT was introduced in July 1984 and was the first BX 19. As it appeared before the BX SPORT, it became the fastest BX back when the 16 RS and 16 TRS were the most powerful BXs.

105 hp carburetor, only manual. 1905 ccm, 105 hp at 5600 rpm, 16,5 mkg at 3000 tr/min, 185 km/h.

Specific wheel trims, front fog lights, spoiler, rubber mouldings on the bumpers. Specific stickers. Specific tyres. Slightly different suspension.
"GT"-Logo in the interior. Like the CX 25 GTI TURBO (2), it has a "normal", round odometer! Also a specific part.
Power steering, tweed interior and board computer always standard.

In 1986, some changes were made. The stickers were modified (The "GT"-sticker on the bonnet disappeared), the board computer became optional and the tweed (brown, white, blue....) interiors were replaced by a black and grey (black plastics) "VIP"-fabric.

In 1986, when the BX phase 2 / mk.2 appeared, and also the BX 19 GTI, the 19 carburetor became the BX 19 TRS. It was also available as break, and with autobox.
