... and the Sahara sands met the snow of the Alps

The water of Rio Rissuolo streams just below the natural basin of Lago Biango, White lake, while the copious snow of the previous winter has not melted yet.
Here the snow still lays above the trail to the lake, you can see my footprints trying to follow its original route (if you zoom in, you can see a painted mark on a rock emerging from the snow).
The white layer is somewhere covered by the red sands blown by the hot winds from Africa, a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly frequent, even during winter. On that same year, while skiing during winter, I saw the huge, snowcovered mountainsides of Monte Rosa painted in a pale red, after a week of warm winds blowing from Africa. It happened in February and in April.

La neve dell'ultimo inverno giace ancora sopra il sentiero, dove sono visibili le mie impronte che cercano di imitarne il percorso.
La neve è coperta in diversi punti dalle sabbie rosse soffiate dai venti caldi dell'Africa, un fenomeno che sta diventando sempre più normale, anche durante l'inverno. In quello stesso anno, sciando d'inverno, ho visto i pendii glaciali del monte Rosa dipinti di un rosso pallido, dopo una settimana di venti caldi. ... anche se il riscaldamento globale è solo una teoria...
