Doune Bothy - a photo on Flickriver

            Scotland in May on the path from Rowardennan to Inverarnan found us at the remote Doune Bothy overlooking the stunning northern limits of Loch Lomond.  Here, my son Tom rests for a minute to survey the scene.  He was of course instructed to, in order to add that human story to the image.  He made a copy of this shot for the cover on his phone, not knowing that I'd already ordered a huge printed canvas for his living room wall.   

I originally posted this one in black and white, but on reflection I prefer the colours that bring back the wonderful weather from that week.  We were hiking along the West Highland Way, which for those who don't know it is a 96 mile trail stretching from Milngavie in Glasgow's northern suburbs to Fort William in the highlands.  It was the second time we'd undertaken this adventure and the weather rewarded us with Mediterranean conditions for the entire hike.  Much of the route is inaccessible by road, and areas such as this can only be reached on foot or by boat.  Hiking is a brilliant way to connect with nature and one's own self, as well as  bringing opportunities to take photos like this.  It was so warm that half an hour later we were swimming in Loch Lomond.  That doesn't happen very often!
