Magdeburg: Dom, Kopf des Apostels Paulus als Kanzelträger - Cathedral, head of the sculpture of Paul the Apostle supporting the pulpit

            Christoph Kapup schuf 1595/97 die Kanzel aus Alabaster, die mit ihren großartigen Skulpturen und Bildern zu den herausragenden Arbeiten ihrer Zeit gehört. 
Der Magdeburger Dom ist die am frühesten fertiggestellte Kathedrale der Gotik auf deutschem Boden. Er wurde ab 1207 als Kathedrale des Erzbistums Magdeburg gebaut und im Jahr 1363 geweiht. Der Dom ist Grabkirche Ottos des Großen (Otto I.), erster Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches. Nach der Beseitigung von schweren Bombenschäden im 2. Weltkrieg wurde er 1955 wieder eröffnet.

Magdeburg Cathedral is the earliest Gothic cathedral completed on German soil. Its building began in 1207, and it was consecrated in 1363 as Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg. It is the burial site of Otto I, the Great, the first Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. During World War II it suffered severe damages by bombs. Repairs and reconstruction lasted until 1955 when it was reinaugurated.
