            bigseed goosefoot, Chenopodium simplex, Nevada, White Mountains, Montgomery Pass, Teels Marsh watershed, elevation 2248 m (7375 ft).

This distinctive annual species is native, but widespread and weedy, over most of North America except the far southern and west coast areas, ascending to middle elevations in the mountains.  Here in the arid White Mountains it is rare, and has only been found in a couple of understory "gardens" beneath pinyon pine or juniper canopies in wet years, once at the south end of the range, and once here at the north end under a single Utah juniper (Juniperus osteosperma).
