A Monster Amtrak

            Amtrak 8 heads for Chicago with a massive consist made of two Empire Builder trainsets combined into one.

Westbound Amtrak 7 terminated in Glasgow, MT (deteriorating weather conditions/avalanche) and was added to the rear of eastbound Amtrak 8.

In total, 6 locomotives and 18 passenger cars zoomed past the camera west of Big Lake, running 4hrs and 28min late out of St Cloud.

Up front was a balanced mix of new and old locomotives. Siemens ALC-42s 304, 314, & 309 were split amongst GE P42s 71, 77 & 199. Another unique moment to document in this transitional era.

This is the largest Amtrak train I've seen to date, and the most Amtrak locomotives in one shot, previously shot 4 on one builder many years ago here.

This was the calm before the storm, just hours later a snowstorm would begin to unleash its fury on us, the forecast called for 15-21 inches of snow.
