Edward Cokayne Chippindall R.N. 
The second son of the Rev. John Chippindall of Cheetham Hill, Manchester, England
Who died at sea 22 May 1886 and interred on this spot.
"Be ye also ready for at such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh"

*In 1887, back in England, a brass tablet memorial was placed in St Luke's Church, Cheetham Hill, Manchester - to the memory of the late Lieutenant Chippindall R.N., son of the Rev. John Chippindall M.A., Rector of the parish. 

Edward was born at Staffordshire and brought up in Manchester, one of a wealthy, academic and religious family. He was a midshipman aboard the Eclipse in the Royal Navy and was soon promoted to Sub Lieutenant, later becoming a Master of the Merchant Navy.
At some stage he became the friend and partner of Captain Thomas Haynes and was heavily involved in the pearling industry in Australia and the islands.
