South Australia. Former Parkside & Eastwood Institute.

            The Institute was first established in 1900 using a room at the Parkside Primary School as a library. The rent was one shilling per quarter.
This building was designed in 1900 by H E Fuller, the seventh son of a Lord Mayor of Adelaide. Sir Edwin Smith donated a block of land for the site, and others made gifts of money and labour. The outcome was that in the early part of 1902 Sir Edwin Smith was able to lay the foundation stone.
It was built by C Oliver and opened in 1903. Extensions were added forty years later by George Wark. The additions to the building, which comprise the whole of the front portion facing the Glen Osmond road, have been erected in accordance with the latest principles to a design supplied by H E Fuller, the architect. The front elevation presents a compact and pleasing appearance. and is surmounted by a neat pediment, on which are the words, "Parkside and Eastwood Institute”. Freestone, with brick and cement facings by way of embellishment, have been used in the construction of the building. The hall, including the stage, is 80 ft. long by 37 ft. 6 in wide, while the dimension of the other rooms are: library, 44 ft. 6in. by 17 ft. 2 in.; reading room, 17 ft. 2 in. by 14 ft. 4 in.; supper room, 43 ft. 6 in. by 23 ft. 6 in.; and kitchen 17 ft. 6 in. by 11 ft. 
The Institute consists of a hall to seat 425 people. The floor is made of New Zealand Kauri pine (secret nailed) and was very popular for dancing.
For 50 years the Parkside Institute was an active social centre for the locality. Its rooms were used regularly by various clubs and included a subscription library. The Grove Kindergarten began here in 1940. The Parkside School and Eastwood Methodist Church Sunday School used the main hall for concerts and fetes.
