            Saint Cecilia’s is Bishop John Norton’s former mansion, a heritage listed Edwardian style building dating back to 1912 when a foundation stone was laid on 12 July.  The building was to Bishop Norton’s design: architect Cavanaghs of Perth, Western Australia. The building has also been known as Bishop’s Palace and St Joseph’s Convent. 
The residence opened 9 March the following year and remained the bishop’s home until a later bishop moved to Port Augusta. 
From 1952 all matters to do with Peterborough Roman Catholic church were included in the Port Pirie Diocese.

A commemorative marble stone proclaiming the building to be St Joseph’s Convent and Boys’ Boarding School was dedicated 5 May 1926, is set into the front of the building.
In later years girls were admitted as boarders. 
The convent closed in 1973 and is now in private ownership.

*Located in the historic township of Peterborough, which has a large railway museum and early colonial architecture. Peterborough is unique in that it is one of only two places in the southern hemisphere where you can still see broad (5'3"), standard (4'8½") and narrow gauge (3'6") railway tracks together.
