Arthurton. Clinton District Soldiers' Memorial Hall and Chambers, Yorke Peninsula South Australia

            
The foundation stone of the Clinton District Soldiers’ Memorial Hall was laid by Councillor J P Pontifex 11 July 1927.

The building situated in the main street will be used as a council chamber as well a hall.

The chairman of the Soldiers’ Memorial Committee (Mr J H Colliver) presided. Members for the district, the chairman of the District Council of Clinton were present.
Local school children and the Maitland Brass Band took part in the ceremony.
Mr A G Altus was the contractor and the building will cost approximately £1,203.
At night a public tea and a promenade concert and dance were held. All proceeds towards the Memorial Fund. [Ref: Advertiser 14-7-1927]

Opening October 31
The Soldiers’ Memorial Chambers were opened today by the Commissioner of Public Works, the Hon M McIntosh. He congratulated the people on having such a handsome war memorial: he noticed there were two honour rolls in the hall. 
Steadily falling rain did not prevent a large number of people attending. After the doors had been opened and the hall formally declared open the ceremony continued inside.

Mr J H Colliver presided and gave a history of the movement to erect the hall. In a short time £800 was subscribed. The total cost was £1,160 and the district council had agreed to meet the balance. The hall was thus opened free of debt.

An honour roll was unveiled by Mr John Sharrad who lost a son in the war. 
The school children sang the ‘Song of Australia’.
After the ceremonies a public tea was followed by a promenade concert and dance. [Ref: Advertiser 1-11-1927]
