Old Gluepot Station Black Oak (Casuarina pauper) posts and rusted rails of stock yard fence, Riverland South Australia

            Gluepot Station was a pastoral lease for 120 years: the initial lease was granted to James White of Kapunda from 1 July 1877 – BirdLife Australia acquired the property on 30 July 1997. 
The property is now Gluepot Reserve. Over 190 species of birds have been seen on the Reserve including 18 nationally threatened. Regular banding has been carried out and surveys for The New Atlas of Australia Birds made Gluepot the most atlassed site away from major cities in Australia.
Research into the vegetation, mammals, reptiles, bats and archaeology has added significantly to knowledge of the biodiversity of the area. 

During World War Two the Loveday Internment Camp was established to house some German, Italian and Japanese people in Australia. Some of those prisoners were taken out to work as timber-cutters.
