A Cold and Crisp Morning - a photo on Flickriver

            A 5.30 am alarm call and a thirty minute taxi ride from the hotel in Jixi was necessary in order to get into position at the Didao Washery coal stockpile yard to stand any chance of achieving something just as the sun rose through the morning smog. With the extreme cold (in the region of -35c) and thick clothing doing its best to prevent the body from reacting quickly enough, 'SY' class 2-8-2 positions tipplers on the landsale stockpile just as the sun rises on 12 January 2010, trying its best to penetrate the smog chiefly created from the power station and burning coal fires in the hutong dwellings dotted around the washery area of the Jixi Mining Bureau.
