A matter of life and death or how I nearly lost my tripod (Explore 14/12/16 #177)

If you've come across my "Venetian bin day" image and read the write up then you'll know the success of our "lost in Venice" strategy to sightseeing. However, I forgot to mention one of my aims of the day - I was hoping to capture something different and artistic and so thought I might need my tripod to achieve it. But not having a clue what I wanted to shoot, the vision and opportunity didn't readily materialise.

Mrs R had been very patient during the day carrying my tripod but the ambience was about to change.... After lunch we wandered down to the southern edge of Dorsoduro but it was so hot we didn't linger for too long and speed-walked the full length of Fonamenta Zattere Ai Saloni towards the shady side of Salute for some respite from the sun. Obviously, being in Italy, this shady stop off involved ice cream, purely for lowering one's body temperature you understand and nothing to do with developing an addiction to tiramisu flavoured ice cream.

Anyway, I digress... it was at this point that Mrs R asked why I hadn't used said tripod all day...??? To be completely honest I'd forgotten that I had it with me... why would I remember, as you all know, Mrs R is my designated tripod carrier on field trips (a.k.a. tripod_carrier on Flickr) and had been carrying it since leaving the hotel that morning.
"If you don't use this thing in the next 10 minutes I'm throwing it in the canal... bag en' all" she said .....

I think I must have set a new world record for setting up a tripod... bag unpacked, legs extended, levelled, base plate attached, camera attached... just needed something to shoot now! This may not be my finest effort from Venice but one that has allowed me to keep a perfectly good tripod and marriage certificate - at least for the time being!
