Tram works in 2020 in front of former Leith tram depot offices.

            The former Leith tram depot offices of 1937/8 are seen across one of the worksites on Leith Walk for the current Trams to Newhaven extension. The depot was opened by Leith Corporation Tramways in 1905 and continued in use after Edinburgh absorbed Leith in 1920. These offices date from the Edinburgh Corporation Transport era and would have seen trams enter and exit over triangular junctions either side of the building. The tram depot itself was behind and was finally demolished in 2017/8 having been in tram use until 1956 and then used by buses for a further twenty years. The former ECT office building has been restored in recent years. The site of the former depot behind is currently home to temporary buildings for contractors and engineers working on the Trams to Newhaven project. The existing Edinburgh Trams’ depot at Gogar in the western suburbs will be adequate for the Newhaven extension - which does not require any further trams- with only a secure stabling area planned for Newhaven.
