Allan Wheatley - a photo on Flickriver

Allan Wheatley

            This man was an excellent actor, poet, WWII radio foreign correspondent (to the UK) with many films and stage appearances as a star.  Awards piled up. He was on UK radio as well, for most of his career, notably reciting poetry. He also translated poetry, notably Blasco Ibañez.

People in my country of a certain age remember him as the grand villain "the Sherriff of Nottingham" versus the famous Robin,  Richard Greene;  these characterizations were a mid-fifties version of Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone in the late-thirties Technicolor film as Robin Hood and his arch-enemy, "Sir Guy of Gisbourne."
