Mojave Narrows west of Jacob Nash Victor, Calif. (Victorville)

            The California Southern Railroad (a late nineteenth century subsidiary of Santa Fe) was chartered to construct a line from National City to Barstow. A man by the name of Jacob Victor was the road’s general manager and oversaw the eastward construction. The task was completed with final spike being driven in November 1885. Today, the high desert community on the northeast side of the pass bares his namesake.

Meanwhile, dusk gives slowly way to a semi lunar-lit darkness with the passage of countless rail movements on BNSF's Cajon Subdivision. One of these movements (along with its end of train device) is recorded moving in the direction of original construction—traveling past autumn plant life and the Mojave narrows west of town.

It was been roughly ten years since I last visited the Cajon subdivision for photographic purposes.
