Begin at the bottom of the image with the ships hull, and the water. After that build upward beginning with the outline of the sails – essentially where sky meets something – before filling in the remainder of the sails.

The edge came next, but was unable to finish this in its entirety so switched to the interior pieces, again working from the horizon upwards using the colour gradient as a guide. A frustrating process even with well-fitting pieces false fits are possible and are usually only detected when there is a space that no piece fits. Removing several pieces and trying different combinations is not what I want to be doing with circa 100 pieces still to be placed. 

Bought more jigsaws…
