            Salim Kyawning R.I.P. - another victim of Australia's refugee policy

Salim Kyawning, a Rohingyan refugee held on Manus Island, had suffered for a long time with a medical problem, for which had previously been medivacced to Australia for treatment. He was killed after he jumped from a moving bus and was struck by its wheels, around 11am on Tuesday very near to West Haus refugee compound. Most refugees on Manus believe that Salim's death was suicide.

Behrouz Boochani: “The first time I encountered [Salim] was in Oscar prison. It was the same day that Sudanese refugee Faysal Ishak Ahmed died due to numerous health issues which included heart problems. For six months Faysal had been begging doctors from International Health and Medical Services to help him. Like Faysal, Salim was struggling to stay alive. He approached me, indicating to his heart, to his head, trying to tell me that he was afraid he would end up like Faysal. During our first interaction he had hope that I might be able to do something for him, he hoped that someone might hear his cry for help.”
