Sunlit Reeds - Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve. B&W version.

            Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve, Avalon Marshes, Glastonbury, Somerset. 
The nature reserve has been reclaimed, from industrial peat extraction sites, back to a place of reed beds, lakes, fens and woodland. It is an ideal habitat for a wide variety of birds and mammals. 
A friend and I visited the Nature Reserve in the hope of seeing the display made by the starlings as they gather in vast numbers before roosting in the reeds. On this occasion we missed it, seeing only a few small groups of starlings dropping into the reed beds. It was however a wonderful day out, and one I will want to repeat.
