Un cheval de bois est un jouet, imitant le cheval, destiné à être chevauché par les enfants ;
Un manège de chevaux de bois est un carrousel souvent ancien et décoré, à un ou deux niveaux, principalement constitué de chevaux de bois montant et descendant alternativement au rythme du manège, au centre duquel se trouve souvent un orgue limonaire ;
En aviation, un « cheval de bois (en) » est une perte de contrôle latérale au sol subie par un avion à train classique. Le tête-à-queue qui caractérise cet incident fait que l'extrémité d'une aile peut toucher le sol et accentuer la rotation. De nature accidentelle, cette manœuvre a statistiquement plus de chances de se produire lors de l'atterrissage et peut provoquer des dommages importants à l'appareil.
