The Kingsferry Bridge, Swale, Kent, April, 2002.

            At the time, in 1959, The Kingsferry Bridge, that joins the Isle Of Sheppey to the Kent Mainland, at Swale, was a major engineering achievement by the Kent County Council, and British Railways....The bridge was designed by Mott, Hay, & Anderson (BUILDERS OF THE TYNE, & SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGES)....And opened by the Duchess Of Kent on April, 20th, 1960. Since that faithful day, millions of cars, and thousands of trains have crossed it, to, and from Sheppey....And the lifting central section continues to raise, and lower, to allow maritime traffic to pass safely beneath. Since the opening of the New Sheppey Crossing, in 2006, the Road Traffic has fallen off considerably....But the Rail Traffic continues, un hindered, between Sittingbourne, and Sheerness, crossing It's only way on, and off The Island !!!
