Tulpen

            Dunkel
War alles und Nacht.
In der Erde tief
Die Zwiebel schlief,
Die braune.

Was ist das für ein Gemunkel,
Was ist das für ein Geraune,
Dachte die Zwiebel,
Plötzlich erwacht.

Was singen die Vögel da droben
Und jauchzen und toben?
Von Neugier gepackt,
Hat die Zwiebel einen langen Hals gemacht
Und um sich geblickt
Mit einem hübschen Tulpengesicht.
Da hat ihr der Frühling entgegen gelacht.

The onion was asleep,
The brown one.

What a rumor that is,
What a whisper that is,
Thought the onion,
Suddenly awakened.

The onion has made a long neck

With a pretty tulip face.

Au plus profond de la terre
L'oignon dormait,
Le marron.

Quelle rumeur !
Quel murmure c'est,
Je pensais à l'oignon,
Soudain, il s'est réveillé.

Que chantent les oiseaux là-haut ?
Et crier et rave ?
Plein de curiosité,
L'oignon a fait un long cou
Et regarda autour de lui
Avec un joli visage de tulipe.
