KCS 5004 @ Blue Island, IL - a photo on Flickriver

            Just before NFL Sunday Kickoff, I escaped over to Blue Island JCT to shoot KCS 5004 (ET44AC) leading CN train L503. The BRC Clearing Yard to CN Kirk Yard bound manifest is seen here heading south over the Cal Sag Channel, about to rattle the diamonds over the Indiana Harbor Belt mains along the former GTW, now CSX Elsdon Sub. Back in 2015, CSX acquired the Elsdon Sub from CN to have a through route that floods directly into BRC’s Clearing Yard. Over the past 6-7 years, CSX has spent millions upgrading the track from jointed to welded, upgrading the signals from GTW searchlights to CSX vader’s, as well as adding CTC and crossing upgrades. This is the only CN scheduled train that runs line between Clearing and Griffith JCT since the CN bought the EJ&E in 2009, the line no longer served a purposed for CN.
