The 1940 Parker through-truss bridge was built to replace the 1912 bridge, located east of the Riverside Swinging Bridge. The project was a joint effort of the Federal Works Agency, Public Road Administration (WPA), the Texas Highway Department (THD), and Walker and Trinity Counties . The overall project included the re-alignment of SH 19 between Walker and Trinity Counties, and consisted of the three tmss spans with one short approach span on the southwest and 50 steel I-beam spans of various lengths on the northeast, for a total length of 2,884 feet. The general contractor was P&B Construction Company, and total cost for both the bridge and relief structure was $443,070. (1)
