All different, yet together | Allemaal verschillend, maar toch samen

Op een stuk dijk middenin de polder tussen Brouwershaven en Zonnemaire staan negen sculpturen. Allemaal staan ze voor één van de bemanningsleden van een Amerikaanse bommenwerper die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd neergehaald op die plek.
De negen sculpturen vormen samen de spanwijdte (33,5 meter) van het vliegtuig (B-24M Liberator).
De basis van het ontwerp van de sculpturen zijn geluidsgolven. Op negen vierkante roestkleurige sokkels van staal, staat een geluidsgolf. "Iedere geluidsgolf is uniek, want het zijn de voor- en achternamen van de bemanningsleden hardop uitgesproken. Die heb ik negentig graden gekanteld waardoor ze op een dalend vliegtuig lijken", legt kunstenares Rosalinde van Ingen Schenau uit Zonnemaire uit.
Het idee voor het ontwerp bedacht ze bij een bak koffie. "Sinds ik de opdracht kreeg was ik maar bezig met hoe ik die negen individuen, die hun leven hebben gegeven, kon verenigen in één monument. Toen sprak ik één van de namen hardop uit, nam ik het uiteindelijk op mijn telefoon op en zag er een vliegtuig in. Toen kon ik niet meer wachten om alle andere namen uit te spreken en te zien hoe dat eruit zag", zegt ze
Het kunstwerk is gemaakt van cortenstaal, wat door tijd en weersomstandigheden een diep roestig uiterlijk krijgt. De kunstenares heeft het monument bewust bovenop de dijk geplaatst, zodat de bemanning 'neerkijkt' op de plek waar ze zijn neergestort. Op de dijk lijken de sculpturen ook nog meer te gaan 'vliegen'. Het heeft de naam Sound Wave B24M 10-FO 44-507474 gekregen

De B-24M Liberator, van de Amerikaanse luchtwacht, werd ook wel de vliegende doodskist genoemd. Het was één van Amerika's meest geproduceerde gevechtsvliegtuigen. Het kreeg die bijnaam, omdat het een heel klein vliegtuig was, volgeladen met explosieven. Eenmaal beschadigd kon het ook niet lang meer in de lucht blijven en waren de vliegeniers ten dode opgeschreven.

Nine sculptures align on a stretch of dike in the middle of the polder between Brouwershaven and Zonnemaire. Each represents one of the crew members of an American bomber that was shot down at that location during the Second World War.

The basis of the design of the sculptures are sound waves. Each sound wave stands on a square rust-colored steel base. "Every sound wave is unique, because they are the first and last names of the crew members spoken out loud. I then tilted them ninety degrees so that they look like a descending plane," explains artist Rosalinde van Ingen Schenau from Zonnemaire.
She came up with the idea for the design over a cup of coffee. "Ever since I got the assignment, I was only concerned with how to unite those nine individuals who gave their lives into one monument. Then I said one of the names out loud, finally picked it up on my phone and it looked like a plane. Then I couldn't wait to say all the other names and see what that looked like ", she says
The artwork is made of Corten steel which gets a deep rusty appearance over time and due to the weather conditions. The artist has deliberately placed the monument on top of the dike, so that the crew can 'look down' on the spot where they crashed. On the dike, the sculptures also seem to 'fly' even more. It was named ‘Sound Wave B24M 10-FO 44-507474’

The B-24M Liberator, of the United States Air Guard, was also known as the flying coffin. It was one of America's most produced fighter jets. It was nicknamed because it was a very small plane loaded with explosives. Once damaged, it could not stay in the air for long and the airmen were doomed.
