Art Nouveau in The Hague - a photo on Flickriver

The mansion Laan van Meerdervoort 215 in The Hague was built around 1900 as a residence in a rich Art Nouveau style. The building was designated as a national monument in 1967 and is clearly part of a row of 13 mansions: no. 213 to 237.

The front facades are built of lime sand stone placed on a granite base. This stone is quite soft and therefore subject to considerable weathering. The facade of no. 215 is pure in style and is exuberant by Dutch standards, comparable to the Art Nouveau in Belgium and France.

Het herenhuis Laan van Meerdervoort 215 in Den Haag is rond 1900 gebouwd als woonhuis in een rijke art-nouveaustijl. Het pand is in 1967 aangewezen als rijksmonument en maakt duidelijk onderdeel uit van een rij van 13 herenhuizen: nr. 213 tot en met 237.

De voorgevels zijn opgetrokken in kalkzandsteen geplaatst op een granieten ondergrond. Deze kalkzandsteen is vrij zacht en daardoor aanzienlijk aan verwering onderhevig. De gevel van nr. 215 is stijlzuiver en is voor Nederlandse begrippen uitbundig, vergelijkbaar met de art nouveau in België en Frankrijk.
