Goldbaumsteiger - Green and black poison dart frog

            Die attraktiv gefärbten Goldbaumsteiger sondern Gifte über ihre Haut ab, über die sie jedoch nur in freier Natur verfügen. Durch das Fressen giftiger Ameisen verwandeln sie die Gifte der Insekten in ein giftiges Sekret, das dann durch die Haut abgesondert wird. Der Frosch zeichnet sich wie viele seiner Verwandten durch eine sehr lebhafte Körperfärbung aus, die als Warntracht fungiert. Der Farbenreichtum geht von schwarz/grün, wobei es viele verschiedene Grüntöne und Abweichungen im Grün-/Schwarzanteil gibt (z. B. Costa Rica, Pazifikseite, mit überwiegendem Schwarzanteil und Karibikseite mit überwiegendem Grünanteil), golden/braun über blau/schwarz bis hin zu fast komplett gelben Tieren.

The green-and-black poison dart frog (Dendrobates auratus), also known as the green-and-black poison arrow frog and with numerous other names, is a brightly colored member of the order Anura native to Central America and northwestern parts of South America.
The green-and-black poison frog typically has mint-green coloration; however, this pigment can also be forest, lime, emerald green, turquoise, or even cobalt blue or pale yellow. Mixed with this typically green are splotches of dark color, ranging from wood brown to black. The green-and-black poison dart frog is one of the most variable of all poison frogs in appearance; some have black or brown splotches, others are dappled, or have "splashes" of black.
