            Ravenhof Castle

Today's Ravenhof Castle was built on the foundations of a building from the 13th century.  Over the centuries, the little castle has been rebuilt and reconstructed several times.
It was inhabited by several people who were important to local history.
During WWI, German soldiers stayed there, damaging the castle on their retreat.  Major restoration works were carried out in 1919 - 1920.
After 1960, Ravenhof Castle fell into disrepair.
The city of Torhout bought the estate with the castle in 1989 and had it fully restored.  The town uses the castle as a tourist centre with a museum.

Het huidige kasteel Ravenhof is gebouwd op de fundamenten van een gebouw uit de 13e eeuw.  Door de eeuwen heen is het kasteeltje verschillende malen verbouwd en herbouwd.
Het werd bewoond door verschillende personen die belangrijk waren voor de plaatselijke geschiedenis.
Tijdens WOI verblijven er Duitse soldaten, die het kasteel beschadigen bij hun aftocht.  In 1919 – 1920 worden ingrijpende restauratiewerken uitgevoerd.
Na 1960 komt kasteel Ravenhof in verval.
De stad Torhout koopt het domein met het kasteel in 1989 en laat het volledig restaureren.  De stad gebruikt het kasteel als toeristisch centrum met een museum.
