Splitting The Signals - a photo on Flickriver

            I've not spent any time photographing trains along the Hudson Line which I really should rectify because it is a gorgeous and historic stretch of railroad.  I suppose part of the reason is that freight traffic is now limited to only one nocturnal thru train each way between Selkirk and Oak Point in the Bronx with not so much as even a local in daylight.  However Amtrak runs a dozen trains each way every day and most are powered by sharp looking P32AC-DMs in the classic phase III image that are most worthy subjects.  

But the icing on the cake is the nice array of trackside props that can still be found including many vintage unique New York Central era small target GRS type SA signals such as those seen here.  A set of intermediates at MP 99 on Amtrak's Hudson Line bracket Amtrak 290, the Ethan Allen from Burlington, VT as it flies past on Main 2 with the cold water of the Hudson lapping at the right of way. 

I'm not sure when these signals were installed, and if anyone here can provide  insight as to their history I'd love to learn more.
