Durin's Door - a photo on Flickriver

Durin's Door

It has been suggested by some that the South door of St Edward's Church in Stow on the Wold was the original inspiration for the Doors of Durin, which is the West Gate to the realm of Moria in JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. This is not impossible since Tolkien may have visited the area, being in close proximity to Oxford.

Whether or not this is true, these two fine yews flanking this door have quite an ethereal impact.
