Viva la música

            Puebla (Mexique) - Quand on évoque la musique mexicaine, on pense immédiatement aux Mariachis. Ce terme définit un type de formation musicale iconique de l’identité mexicaine. Pourtant, ici, de très nombreux musiciens qui pratiquent tous les styles de musique allant du classique au rock en passant par le jazz et le folklorique. Sans oublier la country sirupeuse mexicaine. Quel que soit le style, il faut reconnaître que la plupart de ces musiciens sont plutôt bons.
On croise souvent, même dans les bourgades les plus reculées, des orchestres qui se produisent dans les rues ou animent des bals populaires pour se faire un peu d’argent. Sur cette photo, ce sont de jeunes étudiants qui jouent un style hybride de jazz gipsy et de musique traditionnelle mexicaine. Ce jour là, ils jouaient en public pour financer leur inscription à l’université. 
Si le musicien de gauche est coupé, ce n’est pas tout à fait un hasard. J’ai fait plusieurs photos avec un cadre classique. Finalement ces « »compositions trop sages » ne rendaient pas l’ambiance du moment. J’ai donc resserré la scène, en me concentrant sur l’accordéoniste -un virtuose- qui avait une véritable élégance dans sa gestuelle. J’avais dans l’idée de ne conserver du mandoliniste que la main et le manche de l’instrument à cordes. Ma première photo était telle que je l’avais imaginée. Pour la seconde, l’homme à la mandoline s’est avancé en esquissant un pas de danse… Au moment ou je déclenchais. Finalement son intrusion partielle dans mon cadre apporte une certaine dynamique.

Long live music

Puebla (Mexico) - When we think of Mexican music, we immediately think of Mariachis. This term defines a type of musical training iconic to Mexican identity. However, here, there are many musicians who play all styles of music ranging from classical to rock, including jazz and folk. Whatever the style, you have to admit that most of these musicians are pretty good.
We often come across, even in the most remote towns, orchestras performing in the streets or hosting popular dances to make a little money. In this photo, they are young students playing a hybrid style of gipsy jazz and traditional Mexican music. That day, they were playing in public to finance their university registration.
If the musician on the left is cut off, it is not due to a lack of mastery. I took several photos with a classic frame. Ultimately these “too wise compositions” did not capture the mood of the moment. So I tightened the scene, focusing on the accordionist - a virtuoso - who had real elegance in his gestures. I had the idea of keeping only the mandolinist's hand and the neck of the stringed instrument. My first photo was as I had imagined it. For the second, the man with the mandolin came forward, doing a dance step... Just as I was triggering it. Finally its partial intrusion into my frame brings a certain dynamic.
