            Fort-Dauphin (Madagascar) - Afin de démontrer aux habitants que la municipalité n’abandonne pas les victimes des inondations, le maire, s’est rendu au cœur des quartiers sinistrés, accompagné d’élus et des chefs des services techniques. Alors que les pompiers tentaient de faire baisser le niveau de l’eau, plusieurs réunions improvisées se sont tenues sur les lieux du drame. Elus et techniciens ont expliqué que les canalisations (en PVC) destinées à évacuer les eaux de pluie vers les bassins de rétentions ne devaient pas être bouchées, ni arrachées. 
Le maire me confiera plus tard qu’à chaque inondation, il tient le même discours à ses concitoyens. En vain. Ça rappelle le tonneau des Danaïdes.

Sur la photo ci-dessus, le maire est en hauteur à mes côtés. Il prends des photos avec son smartphone. Son Fuji n’a plus de batterie. A droite on aperçoit le capitaine des pompiers qui lui aussi a décidé d’aller à la rencontre de la population.

Fort-Dauphin (Madagascar) - In order to show residents that the municipality is not abandoning flood victims, the mayor went to the heart of the affected neighborhoods, accompanied by elected officials and heads of technical services. While firefighters were trying to lower the water level, several impromptu meetings were held at the scene of the tragedy. Elected officials and technicians explained that the pipes (in PVC) intended to evacuate rainwater to the retention basins should not be blocked or torn out.
The mayor will later confide to me that with each flood, he gives the same speech to his fellow citizens. In vain. It reminds us of the barrel of the Danaids.
