Gold Creek Early Winter - a photo on Flickriver

            In early December while hiking up the Gold Creek Trail I came upon this opening in the forest with snow covered boulders along side Gold Creek. The days are short this time of year with the approaching Winter Solstice and even in the mid afternoon the sun is already at a very low angle. I noticed shafts of light making their way through the forest and atmospheric light illuminating the branches of tall evergreens underneath Rampart Ridge. I reminisced about my trip to the top of the ridge earlier in the summer at the peak of the heather bloom. Suddenly a sun star emerged illuminating the snow caps of some of the boulders and also filling a warm place in my own soul on this early winter day.
