Durham Boat Barn - a photo on Flickriver

Durham Boat Barn

Durham boats ferried iron ore and other bulk materials down the Delaware River in the 1700's. Typically to Philadelphia for processing and trade. During Washington's crossing of the Delaware, in the Battle of Trenton, these shallow-draft boats were specifically chosen for their stability and payload.

The above barn was built in 1977 to house replicas used for the annual Chrismas re-enactment of "Washington's Crossing". Paul Rolling of ME built the above replicas in 1996-97 - These reproductions are about 40 feet long.

The Grand Union , or Continental Colors, flag above, is considered the first national flag of the United States.
