roughing it in Austin, 1981..

            We were camped out at an unnamed 'rustic' campground on Lake Travis, north of Austin, Texas. The only facilities there were the picnic tables and a roughly flat spot to pitch a tent. 

Good luck driving a tent stake into the ground there though. The limestone bedrock was about in inch below the dusty surface. I bent all the stakes we had and ended up piling rocks on the corners of the tent to hold it in place.

But we had fun anyway, in spite of - or maybe because of the isolation. I mean, if you're going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere, it doesn't suck to be stranded with a pretty girl!
