Harry and.. Harry?

            That's my grandfather and father on the forbidden couch at Grandma's, Christmas, 1960. They are playing with a 'miniature' transistor radio - the first piece of electronics available to the public. Prior to these, everything used vacuum tubes, which meant a radio was a tabletop appliance that had to be plugged into the wall. 

Now, you could take the radio anywhere with you, and even listen to it privately with the miniature earpiece. It wasn't stereo, and it was only AM, but it was a sign of things to come, for sure. What'll those Japanese people come up with next?

I really never realized how much they resemble one another till I looked at this old slide, where their expressions are so similar. 

This is one of Grandad's old color slides that I have been copying so we have digital, shareable versions that (hopefully) won't deteriorate any further. It took a bit of work to salvage them even to this point because the color film of the day was not very stable at all.
