Bridge 60, Monmouthshire-Brecon Canal, Govera, Pontypool 7 April 2025

            The limit of my walk this morning, Bridge 60, Govera Bridge, above the former British Nylon Spinners Factory.

Bridge 60 is an early example of a skew bridge, i.e. it crosses the canal at an angle. William Crosley, the engineer who led the construction of the extension to link up in 1812, the Brecon and Monmouth Canals had worked under the engineer William Jessop where some of the first skew bridges were built.

To the left, underneath the span can just be seen reinforcing bullhead rails, a system used on several bridges on the Brecon stretch of the canal.
