Ebdon's Tours Padane Leyland Tiger XPP 289X

            To follow on from my previous posting showing a Ebdon's  Tours of Sidcup Plaxton Paramount 3500 Leyland Tiger. In the early eighties Ensign Bus expanded into selling new coaches and were the authorised dealer for the Italian coachbuilder Padane, and the Dutch coachbuilder Berkhof.

I believe, although I may be wrong, only 10 Padane coaches were sold in the UK? on Volvo B10M, Mercedes Benz 0303 and Leyland Tiger chassis. Only one Tiger was bodied by Padane with the ZX body (CH47Ft) and was registered in April 1982 and was a demonstrator. The Tiger chassis type TRCTL11/3R was powered by the 218bhp TL11 engine driving through a five-speed semi-automatic Pneumocyclic gearbox, After Ensign finished with it, Ebdon's of Sidcup purchased it, according to Colin Ebdon, it was the best Tiger he ever owned.

My view taken in August 1985, shows Ebdon's Tours Padane ZX Tiger, still wearing the demonstration bronze livery, indeed it remained in this livery while Ebdon's owned it, when it was withdrawn and sold, it was owned by a number of operators over the years, ending  up with Delta Travel from the North East, sadly it was sold for scrap a number of years ago.
