Ruins of Urakami Cathedral - a photo on Flickriver

            Apart from Allied prisoners of war, among those killed were Catholics, as Nagasaki had an active Catholic community going back to the 17th century. Possibly as many as twenty-five percent of the victims of the bombing were Catholic civilians. A well attended mass was under way at the time of the bombing, in Urakami Cathedral, and all inside were incinerated. Ruins in the form of sculpture and other relics from the cathedral are on display in the museum.
