St. Michaelis. Oder auch der Hamburger Michel. ( explored 16.5.23)

Die evangelische Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis (volkstümlich: Michel) ist der bekannteste Kirchenbau von Hamburg und gilt als bedeutendste Barockkirche Norddeutschlands. Für die Schifffahrt auf der Elbe stellt der weithin sichtbare Sakralbau mit seiner markanten Architektur seit langem das Wahrzeichen der Hansestadt dar.

Die Kirche ist nach dem Erzengel Michael benannt, der als große Bronzestatue über dem Hauptportal als Sieger im Kampf mit Satan dargestellt ist. Der Kirchbau steht in der südlichen Neustadt zwischen Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, Krayenkamp und Englischer Planke. Der Kirchturm hat eine Höhe von 132,14 Metern.Das heutige Bauwerk ist ein Wiederaufbau von 1912, nachdem die Kirche 1906 abgebrannt war.

The evangelical main church Sankt Michaelis (popular: Michel) is the most famous church building in Hamburg and is considered the most important baroque church in northern Germany. For shipping on the Elbe, the sacred building with its striking architecture, visible from afar, has long been the symbol of the Hanseatic city.

The church is named after Archangel Michael, who is depicted as a large bronze statue over the main portal victorious in the battle with Satan. The church building is in the southern Neustadt between Ludwig-Erhard-Strasse, Krayenkamp and Englischer Planke. The church tower is 132.14 meters high.[1] The current structure is a 1912 reconstruction after the church burned down in 1906.
