Pulls Ferry, Norwich - a photo on Flickriver

            The watergate at Pull's Ferry was once the home of the ferryman after whom it's named - John Pull. The arched watergate was built in medieval times but the adjoining house is of a later date, it has also been know as Sandland's or Sandling's Ferry after an earlier ferryman. There was a passenger ferry operating at Pull's Ferry until the 1930's.
The original purpose of the watergate was as the entrance to the canal, where stone to build Norwich Cathedral was bought in. 
When Herbert de Losinga started work on the cathedral in 1096 the canal was built to link the site to the River Wensum so stone could be bought from Caen in Normandy by water. The canal was eventually filled in.
The building gained Grade: II* listed building status on 26th. February 1954. (English Heritage Legacy ID: 228942).
