Milky Way soaring over the Strait of Juan de Fuca

            Taken at 2 am while backpacking with my wife and daughters on the West Coast Trail - camped overnight at Tsusiat Falls Beach.  Got out of the tent (lower right) at 2 am for a bio-break, beheld the Milky Way in all its splendour, and visible green airglow.  Got out the camera, set up the tripod, and shot away - stitched single-row panorama with a 35 mm lens.  Single exposures, no stacking (this was before I knew what I was doing - I should have stacked....).  Lights above the water are towns/lighthouses on the Olympic Peninsula across the strait.  Had lots of ridicule poured over me for hauling tripod, DSLR, and two lenses on a gruelling backpacking trip, but this photo alone made the ribbing, and the sore muscles, worth the effort.
