Neist Point Lighthouse, Isle of Skye

Couldn't not visit Neist Point during my recent trip to Skye now could I? As it happened (and unbeknownst to me) I was there at the same time as Richard Fox so check his image out www.flickr.com/photos/bikeystuff/51977335771/in/dateposted/

I think you either have to have the top of the rock face below the horizon or well above so I tried to pick my spot on the overlook accordingly.

We got a little light on the rock face as you can see from Richard's shot but there was a bank of cloud on the horizon so no golden glow. I had a similar shot to Richard's but didn't see much point in posting that so went for this one where another Tog had set up for the shot (No this time it's not me in the red jacket!). He was so conveniently located and wearing just the right colour that I thought it would be stupid not to shoot it and as it's a bit different from Richard's I thought I'd post it. There is just a little light on the rocks which I've tried to bring out with a little dodging. This is a 4 shot focus stacked image for the land scape and as the Tog moved very slightly between the 4 shots shots I picked one, stacked and aligned it then brushed him in.

Neist Point is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland and can be found on the most westerly tip of Skye near Glendale.

Mr W Hugh MacDonald from Oban was the building contractor for the lighthouse and dwellings which cost £4,350. The lantern was made by Dove & Co costing £1,100 and the lightroom machine cost £418 and was made by Milne & Co.

The light was first exhibited on 1 November 1909. The fog signal, which has since been discontinued, was completed on 25 June 1910. The station was converted to automatic operation in 1990. (ref. www.nlb.org.uk/lighthouses/neist-point/)
