Old Radar Research Station, Dungeness, Kent, UK

Dungerness is one of those places that I've wanted to visit for about 3-4 years since I first saw some photos of the old boats there. More of those in later posts. I'd picked a B&B less then 30mins drive away and decided to pick the moodiest day I could see on my forecast for a visit. I arrived on a frosty morning before dawn and after parking this was the first location that grabbed my attention.

I gather its now a B&B which you and your loved one can hire by the night for a romantic getaway. Originally it's the location of two old prefabricated wooden sheds erected as a Radar research station by Decca's (yes the record label company!) radar division in 1961. The concrete posts you can see are supposed to be original. The wooden timbers were quite frosty that morning. The only colour in the sky most of the day was when I shot this and I wasn't sure whether to go with colour or B&W...so I went with both.

Several more shots to come from Dungeness and although it has its challenges for a Tog it also has massive potential if you are into the sort of non-traditional landscape images you can get there.

The Seven Sisters, Cuckmere Haven, East Sussex, UK

No, No Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn etc! 😀

This is an 11 shot Pano of The Seven Sisters taken a little later than the previous shot. Having got what I could without either photobombing another Tog’s shot (or having them in my way) I decided to head sideways to the coast to see what the view was like. The sun was partially striking the chalk cliffs and the Belle Tout Lighthouse (far right) but it especially lit up the Fishermen’s cottages. This I guess was intended when they were built. Again no great sky but when a location isn’t on your doorstep you have to make the best of what conditions you get.
