Happy New Year! 01/01/20 - a photo on Flickriver

            My New Year's Resolution this year is to share one photo per day for 2020, whether something I captured that day or something I've been working on in editing which I'm proud of.

I struggle with keeping deadlines I set for myself, as well as struggling with feeling comfortable "promoting" myself and my work in basically any way; so this is meant to force me to confront both of these bad habits this year. Some weeks I'll pick a theme for the images, other weeks I'll just share photos I love.

So, to start off the year, this is likely my favorite image of 2019. Short story behind it: when my wife and I were on our incredible honeymoon, we spent our last day in Venice on the nearby island of Burano where the houses are painted these gorgeous and bright colors. This was taken just before golden hour as we were finding a restaurant for a lovely local dinner.

The lighting was actually far from ideal and it took a lot of careful work processing to bring this scene out. This is the first time I've digitally processed a photo where I felt I could utilize all the knowledge and skill I had in the dark room in my film days; I'm so proud of the end result that we've got a big print of it to hang in our home!

So, Happy New Year to you and yours. I can't wait to share more of my photos with all of you. I put my heart and soul into these images because I love showcasing the beauty in this incredible world we live in. I've got lots of beauty to share, and capturing more every day!
