Gathering of Scarlets - a photo on Flickriver

            Scarlet Macaws (Ara macao)

It was such a pleasure to be able to visit this special claylick in the midst of the Amazon Rainforest. We have not visited one quite like it before and while it needed lots of patience waiting for these large and colourful birds to gather the courage to descend from their tree tops down into the darkness, it was worth it. 

While we waited the claylick was also visited by Cobalt-winged Parakeets, Orange-cheeked Parrots, Howler Monkeys and a troup of Woolly Monkeys passed by overheard. Other lucky guests have even had a jaguar visit while they watched.
