Two birds on the look-out for intruders

            Photo taken on the Orkney Islands, a group of islands off the northern coast of Scotland. The largest of them is called Mainland, from the Old Norse name Meginland. Mainland's west coast consists of mostly dramatic cliffs, constantly eroded by the waves pounding in from the North Atlantic.

Origin: millions of years old sediment layers turned into rocks, tensions in the Earth's crust folded the rock layers and in some places the rock series was cut by geological faults or fractures.
