Class 5MT, ‘Crab’, locomotive, No.42900, of Saltley M.P.D., Shed No.21A, built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, Crewe Locomotive Works, in 1930, is seen here, standing at Platform No.6, at Sheffield Midland Station, on 17/08/1956.
Built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, Crewe Locomotive Works, to Order No.346, and to Works No.6022, in 1930, as Class 5MT, and delivered, new, on 23/08/1930, as No.13200, most probably to Leicester Midland M.P.D., (Shed No.15C), where it was recorded as being both, on-shed, and allocated, on 14/06/1936. The locomotive is recorded as being allocated to Saltley M.P.D., (Shed No.21A), on 01/01/1948, and from there, it was transferred, to Kettering M.P.D., (Shed No.15B), on 16/07/1955, and from there, back to Saltley M.P.D., (Shed No.21A), on 13/08/1955, and from there, to Birkenhead Mollington Street M.P.D., (Shed No.8H), on 20/06/1964. The final transfer was from Birkenhead Mollington Street M.P.D., (Shed No.8H), to Stockport Edgeley M.P.D., (Shed No.9B), on 06/03/1965, and here, the locomotive would remain, until withdrawn from service, on 09/10/1965. It is recorded that following withdrawal from service, that the locomotive remained in-storage, and out of use, at Stockport Edgeley M.P.D., (Shed No.9B), until it was despatched for disposal to John Cashmore Ltd, Great Bridge, Tipton, where it is believed to have been scrapped, in June 1966. The locomotive was renumbered, as No.2900, by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, on 21/02/1935, and again, renumbered, as No.42900, on 30/04/1949, by British Railways.
